How is calving ease transmitted?

My neighbor wants to buy a bull from me to use on a small group of heifers. I've been using only calving ease bulls from Select Sire for the past 10 years. New Design 878, War Party, Total, All In etc. I've never had to assist a birth (short of correcting a leg back) because of calf size. My bull calves are all in the 60-70 pound range, heifers between 55 and 65 pounds. I currently have a real nice New Design daughter with a nice All In bull calf the neighbor is interested in.

Are we safe to assume my bull will be a calving ease bull because I've only used calving ease bulls and all my calves are small, or is that not how it works?

It makes it more likely, but there are no guarantees. Sometimes low BW bulls aren't necessarily calving ease because of calf shape. It also depends greatly on the genetics behind his cows, how they are managed, etc.

Yes, like begets like.....
Although, Total ce -4 bw 3.2 is well below breed average calving ease
The bull calf is from Deer Valley All In ce 13 x New Design and I would have no fear using him, or selling him to a neighbor.
