I posted this in grasses and no-one responded . Don't know if I can double post but if not Mods please delete the post in Grasses rather than this one

Can anyone identify the type of spreader I have ?

It is the normal spinner with a top spinner which seems to work as a stirrer. Fertilizer drops down through a plat with a sort of "H" pattern cut in it and this "H" can be turned and set at any degree of rotation and stays there when the spreader is operated .

It ha a normal hopper and gearbox and drive shaft but I don't know how to set the "H" or if I should have the open/closed sliding plate fully open or half open or maybe 2/3rds open ?

It seems to be delivering it too bloody fast for sure when fully open.
Any help appreciated , Thanks
Ty

Pictures of the working parts might help. It sounds like one of the typical broadcast spreaders that are made by dozens of companys. At least it does to me

To adjust the distribution, you first need to set it for whatever you're spreading. Different rates for Fertilizer, and Seed.Might want to do a Google search and see if you can find rates/settings. Those spreaders are pretty Generic.

Pictures are no problem but I cant attach them here. How do you do it ?

Setting the rate of flow is my question . I dont have any idea where you set it . As mentioned the "H" seems to be the clue . Its a sort of squat "H" punched through a round plate of about 6 inches diameter. It can be rotated to any degree of 360, but there is nothing to close off the flow. This can only be done with the slide at the bottom of the hopper and is a metal plate with a 5 inch hole in it which slides over a similar plate fixed underneath.

the on/off lever can be set at any position formed by sliding one hole over the other

Oh I googled all over before I turned here for ideas
Thanks

Can't visualize it. But with our spreaders the smaller the seed the smaller the opening needs to be. Then you got to calibrate your speed. I'll measure out about a half acre and "test" it on this spot and see how its going to work out over the whole field. To stop the flow - if you don't have a cutoff you can reach from the tractor - just turn the PTO shaft off and this will pretty much stop the flow - less bumps.

Thankss for reply , I have tried the pto on both ground speed and on normal constant spin so have that worked out

Bought a couple of small bags of dolomite to try and off I went , opened the sliding circle cutoff device just a little and away I went with the pto going at constant 540 revs

Ha Ha , I got about 100 yards with 80 kilo (150lbs) of dolomite all used up so I've really got to slow it down . Just wish I could undertand what that "H" does. Maybe the plates come in different sizes? maybe I can tape over most of the hole with racing tape . Ill try that next.

And I think I will try ground speed pto also to even it out .

Had a look at a new spreader today and the outlet was much smaller and had a graduated adjustment on it.
Seems mine needs to be closed right down nearly fully for what I want and the "H" turned to about 300 degrees assuming 360 degrees is straight ahead in forward direction

Both ends of the "H" point to 300 degrees

Any other comments appreciated
