Looking for a quiet, well mannered Ranch gelding for my son. The horse needs to be 5 years old or older. Some cattle sense, but not necessarily a cutting champion. The kid is 13. Not experienced. If you can help, let me know. Mac.

best thing too do in this situation is buy a good broke solid QH if you start to mention cow horse you gonna have to come up off that wallet. when he learn's to ride he can push cattle and sort with a kid broke horse. most cow horses are made there are those that have cow sence blood in them that aint worth a da## the majority of rope horses are more atheletes than they are cowy there was a old calf roper in my area that roped calves on a TN walker they said he would lead the horse in the arena at rodeo's get on rope his calf and dismount and lead him back out so the other cowboys wouldnt horse laugh him :cboy:

Heres what you need for a young inexperienced rider...Old Zip--About 20 years old- used for ranchwork for years, took a couple daughters thru High School Barrels and Goat tying, 4-H team penning, and is now the tutor for a granddaughter and grandson....

And from the smile on her face you can see that the granddaughter would not sell him for any price....

Ain't the prettiest thing on earth- but he is dependable and a great baby sitter for the grandson too......

i have a ol rope horse that's enjoying semi retirement right now that i have had since he was a colt. he turned 23 this month great kid horse but the family would sell me before they would him

 my old AQHA turned 27 last month. We still show him in showmanship with the litle kids, trail ride him, and light pleasure
classes with the 10 year old rider. The ole guy has been in 4-H since 1981! never missed a year! :P

My appy mare was cattle savvy and she got too old for any hard use, so I sold her to a lady for a trail horse, haven't had one since, don't want an elderly one or a young one, want one from 5-12, with sense, that won't run the cows on its own, but we can move them with it when we need to .
