I was thinkin I needed a new ranch horse so I started lookin. And I found Bubba

I am going to look at him this thursday. It sounds like he is a pretty good horse, but I would be trading my best horse. My horse is a paint, and I don't like that much, and he isn't very cowy, and I don't like that much, but other that that I can do about any thing off him. And he is a great kids horse.
here he is
Dandy.jpg
what do ye'all think?

What is the age difference in the 2 horses. Your horse appears better muscled. If the top horse is as cowy as you claim, I'd think he would be better muscled for a '97 model. I have a pair of paint geldings that are 5. And are more muscled than that horse appears to be. I prefer the paints. And your horse is well marked, how is he bred?

Well that paint is six this year. He doesn't have any big names in him, and I am told that the 97 model is pretty cowy.

Not only is the horse beautiful, but take a look at that GREEN grass!!!

I agree, your paint is beautiful. And he looks like he could pull a few cows if he had too. Have 2 paints, both are muscled up giants. One is a bald face paint has some Ultra Chrome in him, he's very showy and loves to work cattle....he gives 110% each time.
If your paint is kid safe at 6, then he is worth his weight in gold. Other horse is nice too, but he looks like a runner not a puller....hard to tell from that picture.

Have you had the paint since birth? Just curious.

Good luck........

No I havn't had him since birth, but he is the most kid safe horse I own. I mean he is one bomb proof babysitter. I am going to be pretty picky on any horse I get. How about this one

I sold her for 1200, and I was sooooo happy to see her go. I was starting to get nervus that I would never sell her.

Will the folks that have Bubba let you take him to a vet to get a complete check-up before you buy? Or maybe you could have an agreement that if Bubba does not work out for you in the first 30 days then you take him back. You never know what he has been through.

Nice pictures.....

Well I asked Him about that and this is what he said, "you said about a 30-60 day swap, that i dont want to do, if we trade iam selling my paint and this horse would replace her. you should maybe come here and see bubba and ride him we have cows to track, and a good size areana, then we could come and see him and ride him , then if we want to trade we trade.bubbba." So that made me a little nervus but then agian I will have to see the horse.

I like the top horse. He looks like he means business. Although the paint is a nice horse I am not a paint fan. As far as the try out period goes I would hesitant to let someone take my horse and go use him/her for 30-60 days. Too many things can happen. The horse can be mistreated, get injured, develop bad a habits, or any number of things.

I guess you gotta decide if you want a horse or you want a horse for your kids. Growing up as a kid my first horse was an old plug, the second was crazy but I learned how to really ride on that one. After that my horses were just that, my horses. I had one for 30 years and I was the only one that ever rode it.

I agree that that does sound like a pretty good ranch horse, but the best ranch horse is the one that can do every thing and has alot of cow in him to. THanks KaneRanch

now it wont i have two rope horses one i can do every thing off of and feel confidant with in the pasture the other horse is pretty much just a arena horse. not trying to sound arogant and im not . i used to rodeo some and still rope every now & then ive seen guys try to trade up to what they thougt was a better horse and later regreted . the young horse im traing im wanting to be able to do every thing on.there is a big defferance in ranch horses & arena horse some not all mind you of the good rodeo hands they are like athletes trained to do one thing.not very good with cattle outside the arena

I recently got some more pics of the horse. See if this helps you make your decision.

I said before that I have been out of the horse business for many years but here are my thoughts based on the pictures. I stand by my original statement of he looks like all business. I like that he has his ears back and eyes on the steer. That's good for roping. What happens after you get the rope on the steer? Will he hold? Could be what we call a "show'r". Works well in a pen but in an open field gets all crazy.

My last horse was a cutting quarter. You could rope off of him in a pen, rope off of him in a field, drag a cow with him, cut one out with him, hunt off of him, or just trail ride. That's my idea of a good horse. If I can't shoot off of him he is useless.

I guess you have to decide what you plan to use him for. Each person has their own needs in a horse. I said I was looking for another one, well I might just get me a plain ol cracker horse. They are sort of like a brammer. Just turn them out and forget them until you need them.

To me all this proves is that he can track cattle and isn't afraid of the lariet. What happens after that calf is caught?

I am deffinatly going to check and see if he will ground tie. A horse that won't ground tie is usless to me.

Well, now I'm conflicted. That was a pretty good horse. Good disposition, Conformation, Strength, the only problem was that he didn't know much. He wanted to learn though. I cut a few steers on him and I was fairly impressed. Great roping horse too. Guess I will just have to think it over.
