Horse Connection

I have a two year old gelding that I am starting this fall, I've been on his back and ridden him around the barnyard twice, and I just haven't "connected" with him, ya know. When I broke my mare, well, she's my sweetie pie! It was exciting to teach her new things and she accomplished so much so quickly. However, with Scout there's just not that spark. It's not that I dislike him, but since he was born my wife and I haven't connected with him like we have with the rest of our horses both bought and bred. Has this happened with anyone else? Scout is sold, verbal but no contract signed as of yet, so hopefully before the snow falls he will be gone, but I still have to put on rides.

I think that kind of a thing just happens occasionally. We had a mare for a while that, from the moment we met, she did not like me and I did not like her. Can't really pinpoint what the problem was.

Got 2 geldings right now that just do not like each other. Can't get along no matter what. I think there's some jealousy involved, but the oldtime horse folks around here say it's just one of those things.

Same with humanoids, I suppose. Sometimes we meet up with someone we just don't like........for no apparent reason.

Scout is also the most stubborn and "wild" horse I've started also. You know up until now I've just been able to throw on a saddle, no big deal, sit, no big deal, then ride out. Not necessarily all in the same day, but with Scout the first time I put a blanket on him, no big deal. I threw up the saddle and he turned, took a look at it, turned back around, and then blew up! He has challenged me, which is good, and it's good knowing how far he's come. I've sat him and ridden him around the barn yard with no incidences. So far...

I have one tough old boy that it took a while for him to warm up to me. Got him at 3 1/2 and he had been a bully of people and other horses. He has finally warmed up to me and now respects me but trust me we had our moments.
