Hi I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone here has used either of the bulls Hoover Dam or Domino 3027. I am considering these bulls for my breeding program this year. Just didn't know if their calves turned out well and grew well. I have mainly grade cows and will be raising commercial beef. And if domino has thrown many horned calves out of polled stock. Any info is helpful. Thanks!

The Hoover Dam bull is an Angus and you will really like his calves, they are really stylish. The only fault that I have seen with them is the frame size, smaller frame, just need to make sure to use him on bigger framed cows.

Thank you for the response. I will make sure to keep that in mind. I'm excited to see what they will both throw. This is my 2nd year of AI and only had 2 calves from the first crop. Both turned out well. Had an exceptional heifer out of GAR inginuity and a nice bull out of Connaley confidence. Hoping this year to continue improving the genetics.

Those are both solid choices. I wouldn't pick Hoover Dam myself but a lot of people are really happy with him.
Domino 3027 is a must use. I think you'd have a hard time finding a Hereford bull that will do a better job for you.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that when using domino 3027 on my polled cows the calves don't end up being horned. Other then that I haven't heard anything bad about him. After using GAR ingenuity and seeing the calf he gave me, Hoover dam has a lot to live up to. Ingenuity had really impressed me

I hope to use 3027 or sensation 028x over some gerts this year. Leanings ensation because potential higher weaning weight on steers.

probably his frame size, he is a little moderate I hear . look at VDAR Really Windy.he is a powerful bull with good frame . i think he is a 60 inch bull. Accelerated genetics has him listed.

Can we define moderate? 5? 6? Really windy is a great heifer bull that will no doubt keep your frame up as he is 59 in. in the sire directory for mature hip.

Seen a lot of 3027 calves. They are good cattle, he's not a cow changer but will improve on most. I would stay away from Hoover Dam myself, never been a fan of CC&7 cattle.

Even though Hoover Dam is a CC&7 son, he is much, much better than his sire. In the same herd the CC&7 calves weren't standouts at all, but the Hoover Dams were a really nice set of calves overall. The only thing as has been mentioned on here is the frame size of his calves, but other than that they perform really well, weaning, yearling and ribeye's.

CBCR,
I have seen herds that are the opposite, the CC&7s are standouts and the HD are pretty average.Interesting. I personally think their is good in both bulls. t

I won't claim to have seen a bunch of them. 10 bulls at a sale that were CC&7 sons. They were all pretty plain and too flat sided for me. With the milk epd on them they reminded me more of brown swiss than angus.

Thank you all for the responses. I will give Hoover dam a try this year and hope for the best. I will use ingenuity on my smaller framed cows to try and add some frame. May even try domino and get some baldies. Thanks again! Learning a lot from this

Got my semen delivered today from ABS. Ordered 10 straws of Hoover dam and after talking to my supplier I decided to go with ribeye instead of domino 3027. So I'm hoping that I get some great calves out of both this year. Really need some good heifers. May try excel also in one of my registered Herefords. Anyone ever used ribeye or excel?

What did your rep say that swayed you away from 3027?

Also, Jake, what herefords have you seen that were "cow changers?"

He told me that 3027 was a good bull but based on what he has seen over the years that with what I'm going for calf wise that I would be happier with rib eye. He said he makes a great baldie cross and will produce some great heifers. Once I seen some of the pictures of his recent calves I was pretty happy with him. I think his daughters have a more feminine look to them and I liked his bw and carcass numbers a little better. So I'm hoping I made the right choice.

Mostly older genetics, stuff that goes to King Ten or something along those lines.
