Bought a bag of milk replacer today ,the same brand I always get .....

Old price last time I bought it in May was $80.00...

Today.............
Are you ready for this????

$111.89 edited >I looked at my bill again...

I had a fit...Everywhere you turn they are screwing you..:(

A friend of mine is going to order 10 bags in for me at cost for $85.00 a bag so I will be ready for next year..if the need should arise but I am thinking that every mom had better take her calf next year and have enough milk for them or I don't care if I get 2 cents a pound for her she is going down the road with her calf...

This is only the beginning ;it is only going to get worse..

Why is it that when I EVEN INSINUATE using a bad word, I get pm's from a moderator warning me not to use those words. Guess I have no friends in the moderator category.

It's possible ???? Some moderators are "born again Christians" who think rest of society must always protect others from hearing anything they don't agree with (or) being exposed to "unkind" or "censored" words. Guess it's similar to the school systems "protecting young minds" from reading literary "Classics" because of the obvious, innuendos, and current societial interpretations of what's "appropriate" for these young untarnished minds... yes, I'm being sarcastic here...

After all, "society" HAS evolved past the "Father Knows Best" type TV programs of the 1950's...and the Pat Boone vocal era...

What's the reason milk replacer prices have risen?

India!

Just kidding. Its too complicated for me to understand but I have seen some people trying to make up for the rise in fuel prices while also adding to their profit margins by blaming fuel costs. I book some jobs a year ahead of time. I quote it and stand behind it. These fuel increases caught me off guard but I got to figuring the actual cost of my work in relation to the increased fuel prices. While some people increased their quotes drastically, I found that it didn't have as great of effect as I first thought or what they were increasing. Don't get me wrong it does hurt, but not to level that some are adding to their costs.

But for a simple answer to why, I'd say its due to lack of real free market competition.

HD, now I know why I got the look from a fella I gave an extra bag of milk replacer to when I told him I didn't want money for it. Wondered why he looked at me like I was crazy but I didn't need it.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
Good grief! That is BS. Here in WV I pay 50 bucks for a bag of all milk milk replacer and that is highway robbery.

Yes you are getting screwed the class 4(milk used in butter/powder plants) price for milk is and has been downward trending for the last 4-5 months. Just started back up a little in june. Don't know what kind you got but our all milk replacer (24-18) was $68 last week from cargill.

Well we had to buy a new tractor today so I got to shoot the poo with some old friends who are dairy farmers and they finally got a huge hike in milk prices which in turn is being put on the consumer. I buy an Alberta product (all that I will ever buy as far as calf supps go) and since we still have a quota system it makes total sense for the HUGE hike .
NOT that I agree with it as it should be somewhat subjective to the market right now for cattle.

It is what it is unless we start subsidising the industry so I guess one just has to tighten the belt on everything.

Milk prices are on the rise, but remember that we dairy farmers also have to buy elevated dairy products also, along with having diesel surcharges taken out of our milk checks, so yes the cwt price is rising, but if you pen and paper it, we aren't really getting anymore money because everything else is going up too.

Hillsdown is that price quoted in Canadian or American $$??

Ingredients that go into milk replacers are extremely expensive.. Whey products, probiotics, vitamins, minerals....everything is thru the roof. You can use your own milk check to get an idea of what the "milk" portion of the formulation would be since your milk is only about 12.5% solids the other 87.5% is basically "water". $20 a hundred-weight milk turns into 12.5 lbs. of powder still worth $20. Tha's $80 for 50 lbs. of dry milk not to mention vitamins, minerals, probiotics and medication will be added to the dry product. This is simply reducing whole milk to powder. Most higher quality milk replacers will contain dried whey, dried skim milk, casein etc. In the long run even expensive milk replacer will cost very little more to use than milk right from the bulk tank.

Recently I asked the current price for the replacer I usually use, when needed, and it was $82.00 for 50 lb. bag for the Land-O-Lakes Cow's Match.
Glad I don't have anything on a bottle right now.

Well TB since our dollars are pretty much at par .9821 it doesn't make a difference.. :lol2:

I am switching brands and will save 25 dollars a bag. It is still 20-20-20 and 100% milk but does not smell as good as the Agri-melc so I don't know if the babies will like it as much.
BTW that is for a 20kg bag so it is not even 50lbs.

I am hoping that I will not need any and that I will have amazing moms next year. 8)

Wow...don't get smart with me(even tho it's true).  Do you sell your milk in kilograms or pounds? I guess it's all relative as regardless...the #'s still change very little. Won't do any good to read the label to find out why the new milk replacer is cheaper. Hopefully the babies will do just as well on it. It just makes me skeptical when I see that much difference in price. Best Wisehs.

I saved one lamb: 60 bucks a bag.........they told me it won't keep more than a month or so....pigs were happy....freezing the extra cow milk now....

We used to store the unused mikl replacer in an air tight bag in the freezer. Calves never seemed to know the difference fomr year to year out of the same bag

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that. LOL I measure it out in the bags so that one bag equals one 2 qt. bottle.
