On the way back from the farm yesterday, I saw a women standing near the middle of US 62. I stopped and had my window down by the time I reached her. She pleaded for a ride. To justify the request, she said she was freezing and that everyone had passed her by. She was an attractive young woman maybe 28. She did not have a coat and her clothing was mod. When she sat in the seat and was beginning to explain her situation, I interrupted and told her, “Honey, just a minute, I am going to take your purse and place it on the back seat.” I had already grabbed it. She started to resist and was stating that no one trusted her. She said everybody thinks I am going to do something. I told her that is exactly why I don’t want your purse in your lap. I have no way of knowing what you might have. Then, I said tell me what the situation is. As I started moving, she explained that her mother had called and was out of gas in a red car at the intersection of US 62 and KY Hiway 324. I said ok, put your seat belt on. She did. She was in fact very cold but I noticed her speech was slow and she slurred her words. When I grabbed the purse which was a large bag type purse, I heard the rattle of pills in containers. I had the mind she was on drugs. In fact, I knew the crowd in Sardis she was part of and they had been in and out of jail for drugs every since I have lived here. When we got to the intersection, there is no mother who ran out of gas. I pulled over and was not of a mind that all was as it should be. I said if you cannot tell me the truth, I said I think you should get out. She pleaded that it was true and ask if she could call her mother. I said yes. I could hear the conversation and it seemed legitimate. She got off and told me to take the next left on the old Sardis Road. I told her straight, I didn’t like what was going on here. She said no her mother had made it up the old Sardis Road. I said that is impossible if she was out of gas. I proceeded and I was not concerned as much about her as what she might be leading me into. Turns out, we ran into the red car coming at us. It was her sister. We stopped side by side and before she got out, I couldn’t believe that she offered to pay me $5 to $10. I waved my hand, said no and told her I am glad she is ok.

What did Blue have to say about you picking up strangers like this?

Good thing Blue wasn't with me. He loves women, not a joke. I was driving the old 96 Camry I drove to your farm with 170,000 miles on it and purrs like a kitten. I took mom to eat and she hates getting into the Big Super Duty. Plus it ain't clean enough for her. :yuck:

Got to be careful now a days.
I know an over the road trucker who told me he always had a .38 under his leg when he picked up hitch hikers.

Had a scarey deal happen in our county about 2 months ago. A guy flagged down a truck, jumped in the bed of the truck and told the people in it these people were trying to kill him. The people in the truck called 911. A deputy pulled them over and the guy jumped out. Turned out he was high on meth and other drugs.
