The OH ranch is for sale for the sum of $ 49.2 million CDN for 50,000 acres-enough for 2,000 cow calf pairs. This works out to $ 986 per cow calf unit(corrected from before).
The proceeds from the sale of the ranch will go to charity as the owner DOC Seamen is a wealthy oil man and can use this as write off. This ranch will likely end up in pieces and/or in the hands as a trophy for another billionaire. No word on the fate of the Red Angus herd.

If I read the story right, the price includes 2000 registered Angus cows and 50,000 acres. It probably isn't that bad of a deal, just an awful lot to buy in one chunk.

My bad I actually had the right answer then in a brain fade I changed it to the incorrect figure...
In any event trading happens in all breeds all around the world. It doesn't seem to be a very successful marketing strategy since those that do it don't seem to last selling commercial bulls. Trading is nothing more than fooling yourself about the economic worth of your cattle in the real market place. In the end such delusions of grandeur don't say much about the traders ability to face unpleasant tasks such as having to cull an expensive or favorite animal. That is why I avoid buying from these types of breeders.

I heard that provisions of the sale are that it can not be broken up and subdivided.

BTW we are almost at par with US dollars, we have been for quite a while. One Canadian dollar buys 94.94 U.S. cents at the end of the SE today.
