My old 'puter at home has been hijacked by an ad program. It has the ability to change file names so the computer can't find them, has changed my home page a couple times, given me pop ups by the hundreds and takes words in text you are reading and turns them into hot links, among several other irritating things. This thing has the ability to hide and disguise itself so you run down part of it and something else shows up. The old girl was never speedy, but now has slowed to timing it with a calendar. The company that put it out gives you instructions for removing it that don't work. Might even make it worse? This is enough to make the Pope cuss. These bastards should all be cut with a dull knife. I still run 95 so most of the ad/spy programs don't seem to run on it. Couldn't even get Microsoft beta to run right. My old machine is made of junk they were throwing away at work, so the price was right-Hate to spend money on things I don't have to, and for what I use it for its been fine till now. (The squeaking sound you are hearing is my billfold opening.) I guess I'll have to run down a 95 disc, wipe the drive and reload it. Might be able to load 98 so the adaware and such will work better. Any ideas? If anybody wants to buy a condo in Florida, needs cheaper Viagra, wants to learn to play poker like the pros, go on a free vacation, buy a new car for $150, or pretty much anything else-let me know.
I've learned the hard way what they used to say on Hill Street Blues was true- Lets be careful out there.
