Hide Pattern Dominace?

You see some patterns that are very dominate - - like Hereford x Angus markings, and it takes a number of generations to get a solid colored hide.
You also see some patterns that seem to only show up occasionally - - like Holstein x Angus, and make you wonder what is in the wood pile.

What controls the pattern frequency in an F1 cross?
 
Looks like incomplete dominance for blazes (reduced amount of blaze in cross bred off spring?)
and recessive for spotting.

- My blazed Simi cross cows almost all throw solid colored calves with an Angus bull. Must be very incomplete dominance.

- I bought some red "angus" heifers last fall and one threw a Holstein calf this week. No profit in that one..
