Calf born and his back and side are hard lumpy mass under his hide. First calf heifer and he weighed 30 lbs. The lumps were hard as a rock almost like clumps of stuff stuck under his skin. It is now peeling off and looks like he was burned in a fire but the pigment and hide seems to be coming back. Premature baby ? I have another calf years ago that had a lump like that on its neck and it thought it was ring worm. I went to peel it off but it felt way too deep so I left is alone. It finally went away but you can still feel where it was. This is not my calf but the owners have a huge commerical nice operation. The vets told them they have never seen any of that. I have a photo but do not know how to ad it..any thoughts ?

I am sorry. I have never seen that before either. I would contact a teaching veterinary hospital in your State. Or even UC Davis here in California.
