I been having many symptoms of heart problems but a heart catheterization yesterday showed everything ok.
Anyone have a hiatal hernia bad enough to cause chest pains and shortness of breath. I have one and sometimes wonder if it's causing more issues.
I don't go back to the heart center until Feb 18th so looking for ideas before then. What do you do if one acts up a lot?

I do. No shortness of breath but the pain can "take your breath away".

When it goes into spasm, don't eat or drink ANYTHING.

I heard you had been in the hospital, sounds like good news. Those hiatal hernias are pretty common as it maybe something you are eating or drinking creating some of the problem.

Many people with hiatal hernia have no symptoms, but others may have heartburn related to gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. ... People with heartburn may experience chest pain that can easily be confused with the pain of a heart attack.

H2 blockers and PPIs reduce the production of stomach acid, and can help the esophagus to heal if stomach acid has caused inflammation. Lifestyle measures also can help with heartburn and hiatal hernia pain relief. ... If hiatal hernia pain is not helped by medications and lifestyle measures, surgical repair is possible.

Avoid foods that trigger heartburn, such as fatty or fried foods, tomato sauce, alcohol, chocolate, mint, garlic, onion, and caffeine

I have an episode about once a week. The stomach pushes up through the opening in the diaphragm that the esophagus passes through. The pain is caused by the stretching of the opening. The pain is severe. If you try to drink or eat, it complicates the relocation of the stomach back to its normal position.

So eat nothing, drink nothing? Don't like that idea.

I don't know what angina feels like but I do know what a hiatal hernia feels like. Mine has been diagnosed. It can be repaired but I don't want to have surgery unless I have to.

Heart cath...yuck!
How's your groin peroration doing? I had more trouble and pain from that than when they cracked my chest open the next day.

KT

One thing I would add. My HH is not a chronic pain. The pain occurs randomly usually after eating something that causes the stomach to react. It kinda feels like you are having a spasm. It occurs in the center of your chest, right below the V of the sternum. It would be easy to mistake for angina.

My husband has a hiatal hernia & was prescribed an RX acid reducer. Didn't really help that much so he started taking a shot of raw apple cider vinegar every day (literally in a shot glass). Amazingly it actually worked. Nasty stuff but better than taking yet another pill.

My heart cath was textbook perfect, home by noon. Cardiologist was able to go through the artery in my wrist so essentially no down time except for not lifting over 10 lbs for a week. (BTW zero blockage, no meds, nothing!)

Yes, they went through my wrist. Had to sit or lay with wrist elevated for 24 hours. I will try the vinegar. It's supposed to help arthritis too so I need that.

You need to make sure that you use the unfiltered vinegar with the "mother" still in it. I know people that swear by it.

Lucky you. They went thru my groin twice now. Once for a look-see 2 days before my CABG and again when they did the device implant in my heart.

Yes! Thank you for clarifying. It's cloudy & vile. I buy Heinz: unfiltered, all natural, with the "mother", raw-unpasteurized.
