Hi, My name is Kelsey I'm a 21 year old female from a farming family in Upstate Ny. I am currently working on this farm, after haveing spent the winter as crew on a tallship. I am no stranger to hard work, infact I find that I am happier when I am working my tail off. Recently I have desided that I want to see more of this country. I thought a good way to do that would be to work somewhere else. If anyone knows of any job openings I am willing to learn anything. I will need help in relocating (not $ just legistics). If anyone knows of anything like that please let me know.

Ah yes, those would make great trotline runners!

Believe it or not, being from North TX, I didnt get a chance to see many tall ships in my youth, or any other kinds of ships now that I think about it.

I've often thought that if I ever had it to do all over again, I would try and get some sort of job on the water. Either merchant marine or freighter hand or something like that. I would even like to give the "most dangerous job on Earth", crab fishing, a whirl just to say I've done it. I've always loved the water, probably why I've always had boats all my life.

Why is crab fishing dangerous? I know that those guys called Tuna Wranglers are pretty tough hombres!!

CopeMan, I guess it's just the conditions that make crab fishing dangerous. I always watch the Discovery Channel shows about crab fishing in the Bearing Sea, and they say if you ever fall overboard, because of the frigid temperatures, you have like 2-3 mins at most before your brain just shuts down completely. If you ever watch the shows, it does appear pretty dangerous, with all the big pots/cages swinging around, everyone working about 40 hrs straight, ropes and chains flying around everywhere. But some of those guys work about 7-10 days and make around $10k each, if you get on a big boat and get into some huge schools of crab.

Wow, ive never been on the water to much, Im more of an ocean person than a lake. Whenever Im near the dock at the ocean where all the fishing boats come in I love the smell of the salt in the air and boats and the whole fishing atmosphere. I think I would like the water. I dont get sea sick.

One of the best times I had was when my son's aircraft carrier was coming back from the Persian Gulf. His ship came into Mayport, Fla. and I boarded it there for the trip back to Norfolk, Va. It's called the 'Tiger Cruise'. Three days on the carrier with my son. What a blast. They took us out to calm water and gave us an airshow that can't be matched IMO. We got to go onto the deck of the ship and watch the F-14's, F-18's land and then take off. They flew right over our heads, couldn't hear them coming as we had our backs to them. They went out about a mile I guess and dropped some bombs in the ocean and you should have seen the water go up in the air. They also shot off that Phalynx, I guess that's how you spell it, and man o man was that cool. I had a blast.
