Saw this posted on one of the car forums and thought about you Alan.
Burning Man starts on Monday and I-5 south in central Oregon was jammed today with cars making the trek. It's a wonder that some of those rigs make it to Nevada. All that effort just to run around naked in alkali dust.

Nope, I don't need to go to Neveda with a bunch of knuckle heads to run around outside naked! I run around naked just fine up here  Although we have a very cool breeze today so it may appear I'm not as manly today, I may put on some pants.

Also, I hate it when the media doesn't do even a minor bit of research. I-5 is no where close to central Oregon. Oregon is about 450 miles from the western coast to the eastern border, I-5 runs north and south about 70 or 80 miles from the coast. That's one thing the Oregon liberals and I agree on ..... I-5 is in Western Oregon. :D

I am wondering how you get to Nevada on I-5? Last I knew it started at the Canadian border north of Bellingham, Wash and ran south through Washington, Oregon, and California, ending at the Mexican border somewhere south of San Diego.

Evidently Dave you have to take the I-5 that's in central Oregon, but it still has to make a big swing east to go into Nevada ..... ,maybe through Burns and the Steens mountians? But then it still misses central Oregon by a couple of hundred miles.

I-5 seems slightly more crowded than the roads going from Burns into Nevada. Last time I drove from Burns Junction to Burns was a little over 2 years ago. In the 97 miles I past one car. That was it one single car in 97 miles. Not the sort of place you want to break down The last time I drove on I-5 was about an hour ago. In 5 miles I past a couple thousand cars with at least a hundred of them driving like suicidal idiots. Also not the sort of place to break down.

I always figured that 97 was the main north/south in central Oregon. It misses Nevada by a bunch. Even 395 down through Lakeview which is getting a little east to be "Central Oregon" still goes into Cali not Nevada. Then there is 95 which goes into Nevada at McDermitt. But that is definitely Eastern Oregon because there isn't another paved road between it and Idaho.
