Well my luck ran out today as far as bred young cows. Stormy, one of my favorite cows ,she is a 3 year old balancer cow and is OPEN .. :bang: I had tears in my eyes when I sorted her to the cull/shipping paddock ,totally sucks . I love that cow and she has AI'd the first 2 years no problem, now the bull couldn't even breed her . Sucks Sucks Sucks :(

Aw Shucks HD!

I've been culling all year long and need to cull some more. It gets tough when you have to cut your favorites. Business is business tho.

Thanks guys.
Very disappointing and a total surprise too ,as she had the highest ween weight steer last year and then bred back on time as well through AI .

Btw Stormy was my bottle calf ,her mom rejected her after a really hard labor and -45 weather . So I just raised her myself. I used her for a few profile pics too. :(

There is a 2 legged guy on my cull list as well if he doesn't change his bloody attitude RFN !!!

I have a first calver that I bought in Kansas last year she calved in late Oct weaned a real nice balancer heifer, and I didn't even try to breed her back till April she has been AI'd and with a total of 4 different bulls since then and is open. With the price of hay she has to go!

It will be a one way trip for him though 3way . :cowboy:

Talking to the vet and he said he has seen alot of open 1 and second calvers this year ,it has been a strange year . BTW Stormy's bull calf that I kept intact is hitting the road too. Don't want him to pass down fertility issues to someone else if it is infact genetic on her side . She is out of my old Remittal bull . One open I guess is not too bad, but dam it sure hurts when it is such a young one that raises a heck of a calf.

I think you just answered your question on why she didn't breed back she gave all she had to the calf and didn't maintain herself even tho she might of been in good BCS it happens quite often

I totally agree with you AC.

In my dairy experience with 2 and 3 year olds not breeding back that were heavy milkers they sometimes wouldn't come into heat at all, even after ov syncing them. Stormy has had a heat regularly and I have it written down that she had a strong heat 26 days after calving . She just never caught to being bred ,strange, and she is not cystic either. I wonder if pushing calving back 3 weeks effected them, maybe the time I wanted them to breed was not the best time for their reproductive system. I will second guess this one forever .
