Hernia? Should I worry?

Help Support CattleToday:

It's something to keep watch on. You do not want a loop of intestine to slip through the hernia and get 'strangled', killing the intestine. Right now she is a cull cow. If the intestine gets strangled and dies, this could poison the carcass and render her worthless as the meat would be tainted. I don't know how big of a risk that is, but with a hernia, this is a possibility, at some level.

Bought some bred cows late November. This one is due in February.
Noticed yesterday that it had developed a hernia.

How concerned should I be about this?

I don't plan on keeping the cow,
If there's no guts in it and you can be sure, you can band it like you would castrating a calf.

I disagree. I have seen that lots of times but never one that gave an issue. Kinda like an outie belly button.
