There is a way to do that. Look at the the tail. Males have a very unique penis. Called a hemipenes. It has spurs so the snakes stay in copulation with out coming apart until the job is done. The most fool proof way is to probe for the hemepenes in the cloaca. Snakes have one opening not two like mammals.</p><p></p><p>A general but not foolproof way is to develop an eye for the length and shape of the tail. The part of the snake from the cloaca to the tip.
