I just purchased a Remitall Patriot 13P son with a -7.6 CE and +5.3 BW epd. Anyone have any experience with patriot sons as I am a little concerned about BW and calving problems.
I have respect for Remitall, but it seems that over half their cattle have heavy BW EPDs, and if you look at the actual weights, it is not uncommon to see 100# or more. However, as a percentage of the dams' weight, their BW in herd is not that high. Those are some big cows up north. There is enough progeny out there on Patriot that I'd guess the EPDs are pretty accurate. I would not use him on heifers.
