Out of the 60ish broken mouth bred cows I bought there is 5 straight line back Herefords. I got them a little cheaper because they are Herefords. The last one calved today. A black whiteface calf. Out of the 5 cows I got 2 black whiteface, one straight black calf, one red neck, and only one straight Hereford. Feel like I won the lottery.

Maybe you had better go buy a lottery ticket.

I have done well buying the older bred one's around here. They are almost always bred black. They are mostly docile and good mothers and as you say, they can be had for a little less cash that a lesser quality black angus cow.

We hit the jackpot on Hereford about 5 years ago . Folks lost their lease and we bought 16 registered Hereford cows . Didn’t care for the papers but we bred them to our angus bull and the last 2 years our brangus bull . Have got several good baldie replacement heifers and the steers bring more than our solid blacks .
