This is the bull we have rented the past three years. have really been pleased with his calves. Give me some feed back on what you think of him. We are told he is a black limo about 4 years old.

We have been renting for 6 years the first three was from a guy that had around 80 bulls he charged 200 for as long as you wanted him. This guy is from a friend we give him 250 for about 65 days.

We are told he is a black limo about 4 years old. if you like his calves thats what matters.... . never rented a bull, had to borrow one once in a bind.. he jumped the fence and killed my neighbors young bull, second day there..so i had to pay for his, and buy a new one anyway.... lesson learned

I too was going to say, if you are pleased with his calves, then that is all that matters. The bull is in his working clothes, and is not fat, so his calves may put on a lot of weight after grazing good pasture, or after putting on a little feed when time to sell. It is hard to tell how the calves turn out just by looking at a bull sometimes.
UT used to lease out bulls years ago when they were helping people improve their beef program. I do believe that program ended a while back.
I personally like to use my own bull, and would not pass him around in other pastures. You can't know what conditions he is in elsewhere.

I think for 250 a year you can't go wrong. If you have a small herd the numbers don't work if you own your bull. I would a lot rather pay for treck test as feed a bull for 12 months.

Seems to be a decent bull. Some questions come to mind.

Is this bull passed around to multiple herds during the year? Would make me nervous about disease.

What is the agreement should this bull get injured or die while being rented?

How many cows is he servicing? Too many to do AI?

djinwa,
This bull is passed between our herd and the owners.

Although not on paper we would cover any medical expenses or replacement costs while we have the bull just as we would if we owned it.

He is only servicing 12 cows at our place. The pasture has poor handling facilities for A.I. We do A.I. our replacement heifers which are kept in the lot. At the owners place he is put with anywhere from 10-40 cows. He breeds for jan-feb and august-sept calves. We used to own a bull when we had more cows but now it is cheaper just to rent.
