Hi all, my first posting here :D
Im in the los angeles area and i would like to buy a steer around 800 to 1000 pounds can you guys help direct me where i could could buy some cattle? Im willing to drive up to 200 miles or so. If possible i would like to buy 2 steers or bulls a year for family consumption
im tired of crappy supermarket foods :yuck: preferably a farm that i can buy my beef chickens pork from.

How about auctions do you recommend that? or I should stick with a small farmer
Some say it's best to go direct to breeders  any suggestions would be appreciated

I do appreciate all the suggestions :D problem is here in the city 99.9 percent dont know anything about cattle they rather prefer running to the supermarket and when i do ask people look at me like im crazy  we are living in a modern society and most think its cruel to kill animals for human consumption but forget where there meat came from when its in the supermarket.
I guess its easier for some folks since they dont see how it was slaughtered or was done for them.

Make your life easier and just look for someone selling freezer beef. A quick web search should turn them up for you.

A breeder might be a good way to go. Not every bull is going to make the cut, and those would be just right for the freezer. Nothing wrong with a heifer, either. I think that if you explained your situation and what you were wanting to do they would be more than happy to help you out, and at least point you in the right direction! Good luck, and kudos for thinking outside of the box and taking things into your own hands! If only more city dwellers were as realistic.

Check out Brandt Beef in Buena Park, Ca. (714) 249-7220
My understanding is they have a warehouse there that caters to restaurants and BBQ competition teams, but they also will sell
direct to consumers from that location. Maybe they will cut you a deal on a side of beef.
They are big, but from what I've heard they do a 1st rate job growing their cattle.
About 6 years ago they got 2nd place and best overall value in America's Test Kitchen for best mail order steaks in the USA.
