Ok, I may be overlooking something obvious, but how do you know if a heifer has been spayed? Other than being told/ having it done? Is there a way to tell by looking? Do they have to be tagged? Mainly if someone was to purchase from sale barn, is there a way to tell?

I'm sure I sound really dumb right now..

More often that not someone who is spaying heifers is growing them out. Not just doing it and shipping them off. I would tend to think that would be remarked at a sale barn too had they been spayed - say if a group of them was coming through, it would be announced.

What would be more likely is ending up with a free martin if you have a non breeder.
