We took advantage of the high percentage of heifer calves and lower prices last fall to keep back some replacements. We just got them back from a neighbor that boards them for us and they are looking really good. These are some of the best we've raised. They will be meeting the bull in a couple weeks.

Nice. Do you every get some rough coated ones?
The heifers are usually a little longer haired than the cows. We worm them fall and spring and try to have a good mineral program and it has made them look better.

Dang nice looking heifers. I’d take a truckload that looked like that.

Thanks. We had almost 70% heifers last summer. We should have kept more and sold the extras. These are out of our top producing cows. Simm Angus and one full blood angus. The red and blazed ones are nice deep girls and just hope they become productive cows.

Neighbours done well for you, they are in great condition. They look very nice.

Ken
Thanks. We could save a little money raising them ourselves, but he does a great job and we don't have to have a separate group to feed and house.

Nice looking replacements! What are you going to breed them to?

We're going to use this home grown Angus bull. He's out of ABS bull with good CE EPDs and is on the light side.

Nice looking heifers. And they look so "unruly and crazy" how did they ever stay in that fence????? LOL :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :hide: :hide: Please believe me, I am teasing. Don't want you to take it wrong.
If you got a truckload like that I think I 'd make a trip north.....

We are having some raised by a guy who has bought heifers from us for the last 3 years. So this year we shipped some to him that we were going to keep as replacements. We get first refusal when it is time for him to sell them, so can get some back that we also did not have to worry about keeping separate and feeding differently and making sure a bull doesn't get within "smelling distance". Sure hope he does as good a job as your guy did. Nice to have a good working relationship with a neighbor that benefits both in the long run.

Yes, our neighbor is a big help. We pool and background our calves with his and sell direct to a feed lot. He's been boarding our heifers for ten years or more. We usually only keep 1-2, but last year we had a great group to pick from so we kept 5 and he kept 5 of his own.
