I have a BWF heifer that should be 6-8 months bred. When we got her private treaty, she had half of a tail. We are lookign at selling her and are curious as to what we should expect through the sale barn. Will she be docked significantly for the tail? I am located in southeastern KY. Thank you all in advance.

Is just the switch gone or more of the tail. It will hurt the sale of her quite a bit. Which market are you going to since I see you are in Southeastern Ky?

I go to the Williams Livestock Market in London, KY. Her ears are fine. i am assuming it may have gotten stepped on possibly? The tail is weird, it is about 2.5 feet long but still has the switch.

Ok, thanks. Reason I ask is that I will probably go to the old London stockyard on Tuesday in a couple weeks. I would not mind her not having a tail if she looks good.

PM me your number and I wont care to hold her back if you like her. I can try and send some pictures tomorrow.

I would keep her and see how she does raising a calf. You might be surprised. If you don't want to keep her, I hope someone will buy her and give her a chance. If she can raise a good calf to sell, her short tail will not matter.

Guess I am going to have to read the thread more often. I got almost to the end and found out Dave had already beaten me to the Wholesale, Re-Tail line. Seriously, with that much tail, she should not bring much less than a full tail heifer of the same quality and time bred. It is with no tail or just a few inches of stub that can get hit a few hundred dollars.
