I have a 2 yr old heifer that was A.I'ed last spring. Confirmed preg. @ 67 days by a vet. Started to have clear discharge mid Sept. Palpated her myself, can't feel a calf. Due early to mid Jan. Ship her or give her one more chance?

Have someone else preg her, If she is indeed open she needs to grow wheels

You should be able to feel a calf if she's due in a month. Sometimes in mid-gestation the calf is way down in the gut and hard to reach but late gestation should be easy to find. A vet would be the best option here. I have several cows confirmed bred at a couple months and end up losing the pregnancy mid-gestation. It's a natural thing for a certain percentage of cows to lose the pregnancy.

Thanks, I can feel the calves on the other 2, (1-cow due mid to end Jan, 1-heifer due beg-mid March) The others are getting big, but she has not changed in size.Did not know it came be common for them t loose a preg early on. our cow has held all 3 years. The other heifer has held. How common is it to reaccure for them to loose another preg? I really do not want to keep her around if she is not going to give us a calf every year. we are trying to raise club calves for our son and local kids.

It depends on the cause of her losing the prgnancy as to if she'll do it again. Since you want her to raise a calf every year, if she's open now she's already failed that requirement

was the discharge clear & slimy or sticky? if it was sticky she would be bred. i have taken cows to sale in third period & been told they were open til i tell them she should be third, then they reach down farther & feel it

Don't know what part of the country you live in but up here pine needle abortion can be a real problem. Some cows just develop a taste for pine needles and it takes right at 72 hours to abort. One year I had three head all abort within three hours of each other...three days after a strong wind storm blew down some branches. We keep all the pines trimmed up as high as my 6'4" son can reach with a set of long nippers and we are right out there after a storm and remove any seedlings that we find.
