We raise alot of heifers on a pasture and feed them shrimpmill ,sweet feed, and hay,and the pasture is poor.Their yearling weight is only about 400 pounds. Is there anyway we can get their yearling weight around 1000 pounds.

Better genetics unless you're raising Dexters. They should be around 5-700 at 6-7 months. What kind of weights are they weaning at.

400 pound yearling weight? Somthing is wrong with this. Please give more information.

.These are commercial cattle, mostly angus.they are weaned around 3 months at 300 pounds. Some are turned out on another pasture that is 150 acres and has good grass. They dont do any better

A 3 month old calf needs better nutrition then just pasture. They're not well enough developed in the guts to adequately utilize just grass. If you wean at that weight and aren;t going to grain them you should just sell them as weaners and not waste the time and pasture on them.

I think the best thing for you to do is to sell them heifers and start over. If they gained only 100 pounds on 9 months they have to be stunted. Don't wast anything trying to bred them. Get them gone and start with good heifers or better yet if you are just starting, get some young bred cows. Don't try to calve out heifers your first calving season.
Good luck and please let us know how things turn out. I for one am rooting for you.
