Hi! So I’ve got one Jersey cow we recently purchased. I’m planning to have her AI’d since no one remotely near us keeps a Jersey bull and I’m looking to breed a replacement heifer from her since she’s already 7. My question is how do I identify standing heat to get the AI guy over here?? Everything I see for heat detect is based on mounting by other cows, but other than the little Scottish Highland heifer I have (who wouldn’t be able to reach anyway) there’s no other cattle to do the job and tip me off. She bellows and has clear discharge but when do I call to have her bred??

When i was a teenager i had one cow for six years and she calved every 11 months in that time all by a.i. I found it really easy to know when she was in heat. Like your cow she would call out and have a mucus discharge and hold her tail out. I would ring the A.I. lady we used and she would come out after she finished milking for the day. So usually it was dark. But late afternoon a couple of times. You really don't need to worry about timing more than that.

Sync her,,, the signs your seeing are right, but like was said in previous post if at night or your not there for whatever reason you can miss it.
