head gates

Help Support CattleToday:

I use a homemade one that be similar, works just fine. I installed a bimba cylinder so as to be able ta close it from behind the cow as it goes thru.

Can you use locking head gates like the ones used at dairy farms on beef cattle?

Absolutely. That is all I use. I have a self closing/self catching one now that took some time to get used to. Ear tagging, innoculation, and everything else is over in no time when you run them into a head gate. No one gets injured and neither do the animals. VETs use them, and just about everyone else I know uses them.

There are several types out there on the net. Some are equipped with squeeze chutes and some aren't.
