Morning folks. Got a hay question. I got 3 guys close by me that sells hay. I really cant figure out who is the better choice to be buying my hay off of. Now I haven't brought and of this hay in to be tested or anything just going off looking at it for the amount of grasses I see in there. So just like to know your opinion on what might be the better bang for the buck. Oh all first cut as well
Guy #1
His bales are dry hay approx. 800 -1000lbs. A mix of timothy and wild grasses. I think there's some tall Fescue in there too. Now I find this tall stuff kinda stalky and the cattle barely eat it. Very little to no mold. His bales are $90 each.

His bales are a bit on the wetter side approx1000-1200lbs. This hay is nearly all timothy with some wild grasses mixed in there no tall fescue at all. I do find a bit of mold in it and I've found some dock weed in there. His bales are $80 each
Guy #3
His bales are the lightest approx 800lbs. I've bought 6 off him so far. The hay itself is a nice mix of timothy, wild grasses and clover. Drier much like the first guy. I have found mold on a couple of bales like a fair bit somewhere between half to a quarter of the bales were mold. His bales are a little more at $95 each.

I agree with Chevy. I buy hay from a guy that's almost an hour away. Took me 4 years to find a good source. Now I buy some whether I need it or not so I stay good with him. He's average price but above average quality.

You have a guy close Jones hay company David Jones.

I cannot be affording $85-100 per round bale. He rolls for horses and Highlands. 😃. Props to him though. He has clean hay and guarantees against weeds.

I want to see some broadleaves in the hay I buy.

The $40 per roll I pay before transporting from Morristown is the most ill pay.

Wouldn't buy any hay that has mold, myself. You need to put your ;location on your profile. It makes it so much easier for people to answer questions or offer opinions

what are you feeding this hay to? moldy hay can cause bred cows to abort calves. If you can't afford good hay, how can you afford lost calves? all three will have low protein and high fiber and be overpriced for what you are buying. at least in my opinion.
