I am going to wrap some dry hay because I am out of storage and I have some really good hay this year. The question I have is some of the bales have set out and been rained on for a couple of days. I have a couple of questions about wrapping this hay. No one keeps the black plastic in stock around here they only have the white in stock. Can I wrap dry hay with white plastic and can I wrap hay that has been rained on after being rolled. Also about how many roll can be wrapped per roll of plastic.

I can answer a few of your questions. I have never seen black plastic here, only white. That's all I've ever used. Bales per roll of wrap is gonna depend on how many layers of plastic you put on your bales. Based on my wrapper (McHale) and leaving the wrapping monitor at factory settings (it spins the bales 20 revolutions) I can wrap around 30, 4x4 bales. I don't know about wrapping dry hay that has been rained in, although I've wrapped some pretty dry hay and always had excellent results. Here's a pic of some very dry (just not dry enough to keep as dry hay without being dusty) hay that I wrapped last year. Cows ate it like candy.

How many bales are we talking? You'd almost be better off to wrap stuff that was under roof, then throw the rained on stuff inside in its place.

The stuff inside will be good and dry and keep well wrapped, and the rained on stuff will continue to dry indoors, where as if wrapped with any moisture, even from sitting on the ground it will mold and spoil more.

That was what I was thinking about was wrapping the hay I have under roof first. I have approximately 130 rolls of hay so far this year. I had 50 left over from last year but my shed only holds about 110 rolls so I need roto wrap 50 to 70 rolls.

cowman are you talking about this kind of wrap

I don;t know what brand the wrapper we use is. It takes 2 rolls and we get around 80 bales per 2 rolls. Those are 4x5 bales.

I am not sure of the model. But it is an in line wrapper. The soil conservation office here has it available for rent.

If they are dry bales, stack them and get a tarp for covering hay and cover them. I have been doing that for a few years and it works fine.

This is the type of wrap that is used for hayledge , silage and dry hay. The applications vary to using a wrapper that does the "sausage roll" of individual rolls. with individual rolls here Is primarily used for storing P-nut hay . And most is black. The wrapper has a prong and a couple of short prongs that when the bale is picked up it spins it and the wrap is started on the bale . if everything is working right it can be all be done from seat of the tractor. I could not find a wrapper like ive used this is similar

So we wrappwd hay today with an Anderson wrapper. We wrapped 100 4x4 rolls with 2 rolls of plastic. We wrapped the bales with white plastic even though they were dry hay because no one around here carried the black plastic. All in all the day went will even though we a had a slight learning curve since neither one of us had used a hay wrapper before.

Wow I asked if that wrap was the kind of wrapping you meant.. You didn't even acknowledge my question. Guess I won't acknowledge your post. Newbies!!
