I just finished this project late last week. This demonstrates that I am not always being silly. I hope dun finds it interesting and that someone cares. :D

This is where I plan to set out my rolled hay should I need to feed hay. I hope I don't have much use for it but if I do, they won't be in a foot of mud. I plan to clean it on a regular basis and put the waste on the hay field.

It is constructed with a base of #2 limestone gravel. I just tried to spread it so that it covered the ground but in many places it was thicker. The #2 is choked off with mine-run waste. It comes from limestone/marble mine that is all underground. Very interesting geology but I won't go into that as dun would say, "Who cares". :D The benefit to the waste-run is that it sets up like concrete. I have used it as the floor of my quonset hut steelmaster building in the background and for a driveway around my hay barn. BTW, mine waste run is free but it costs $150 to get it hauled. The #2 is expensive.

ONly thing that comes to my mind is that unless you have a paved road to the spot you're still gonna have a shyt hole all the way to the "gravel".

We sometimes feed on a 55x35 concrete pad with 1.5" grooves cut in for traction and it takes less than a month for the poo to get knee deep around the hay rings. I can't be there to keep it scraped and moved out so it almost defeats the purpose to feed there but it was a good idea when my father in law poured it some years ago.

There is a nice all-weather road to the shop building in the background. I will come into the put down are with the tractor through that gate you see. My plan is to get through the entire feeding season and never put my tractor off of gravel.

Tux, have had the same experience where I fed before. You have to do routine removal to keep up with it. I plan to. I am in the phase right now of deciding where to put the waste. I will either immediately take it to the field or maybe stockpile it. I think that is going to be the learning experience.

Push it up in a pile ......rotten hay and cow manure will make great compost.
