Hauling

What do you all think about hauling a 2 horse trailer with a 4WD Jeep Cherokee? Is it safe going up hills?
Id be more concerned going down hill's :P does it have the power too pull up hills and the braking going down? one horse will be ok but two might be pushing it.hard on trans and eng overheating but my main concern would be the trans

I know of a gal that does it, but I wouldn't. Smallest truck I'll tow with is a 1/2 ton truck. But than, I tend to be paranoid. I've towed cargo trailers with a Dakota, and realize how easy it is for you to start skidding, than not have the ability to stop that quickly.

On a lite truck (SUV) like that going down hill it is easy for the full trailer to start pushing the Jeep. I wouldn't.

On that same note, what do you think about towing a GN 3 horse slant w/ a dressing room, using a 1/2 truck? That's always struck me as unsafe, yet I see people who make a habit of doing it.

If you are going a short distance, no hills, have a big engine and tranny cooler, should be okay. But 3 horse trailer is pushing it, and not on hills or long distance.

Most two horse trailers has electric brakes on at least one axle if not both. If the brakes on your trailer works, I see no problem.

It's an old trailer with no brakes. We usually load up both horses. My boyfriend has a big truck that we haul it with but I just wondered if my Jeep would be ok if I ever wanted to go without him...maybe I need to look into buying a truck
