this is gonna sound pertty dumb to you seasoned cattle guys but here goes. when hauling cattle with horns is there much of a chance of them getting stabed by one another? do you use divider {i have a stock trailor 16 ft}or do you just load them. and roll the dice. you never know unless you ask, right? As a LH breeder, we haul horned cattle a lot. You don't want to over crowd your trailer,(course that goes with anything) If you have a divider in your trailer, use it. But in the end, there is always a chance that one will get raked. :cboy:
not that far from me about 2-3 hrs away, goning to finnish fencing off blue blerries,{they are in the big field i have fenced in now, sat gonna start working on the other side, but i know i need to get those highlands lands be fore some one else does, got half the $ togeather now, talked to bank about a personal loan{ i hate to do that but..}i dont want to piddle a round and miss this chance.. i just dont wnat to go get those guys like a 'greenhorn' and somthing bad happen on the way home. im glad mules dont have horns ! maybe next week , keep fingers crossed. my mule theroy "be prepared for the worst to happen, and be glad it didnt!" :roll:

About a month ago we hauled 11 head of longhorn crossbred bulls to the sale for a friend. They were 1 1/2 to 2 years old. One of the bulls was sporting a pretty good set of "clown stabbers" and he was trying to gut the others in the trailer with those points. We had him in the front of the trailer with 2 other bulls and we had the other 9 in the middle and back part of the trailer. He got so bad that we had to take a lariat rope and put over his horns and tie him to one of the bars on the side of the trailer. Otherwise we would have arrived at the stockyards with some seriousy hurt, if not dead, cattle. I have seen many that have had to have their heads tied to the side of a trailer to keep them from hurting other cattle. It will work if nothing else does.
good to know. just in case, i always carry extra ropes. ill be sure to take tham out of horse trailor before we load, if i get theones im looking at it will be 1 - 2yr bull and 2 cows,one cow has a baby that who i worry about the most. the baby getting smashed or somthing. ill use the divider and put momma and baby by them self. im all about a game plan. the bull leads i belive so it might not be a bad idea to tie him up at the start. thanks
