Hatchet butt....

Someone asked what the term "hatchet butt" was all about...
here's a good example.

Story behind this heifer..short version. Took Susie to the sale Nov 04 looking for some steers. Bought a small load of weaned Herfs and went to the cann, on the way back stopped to talk to a friend and saw Susie's hand in the air...by the time I could get to her the auctioneer had sold her this heifer. Came from the same ranch as the steers and Susie thought that she'd be lonely without her herdmates...now we have, God forbid, a pet soon-to-be cow that follows her around like a puppy.
Could be pregnant...whadda 'ya think....

looks pregnant to me.

i also find that either the hindquarter does thin down a little when calving is near, or it is a visual illusion. i am not saying her quarter will look better, but there are many cows that look good during breeding season and thin on the back end at calving.

This one actually is looking better peing pregnant...widening through the hooks and pins. Did a rectal a couple of weeks ago and she's got plenty of room for calving. Probably will ship them both this summer, not expecting a great calf.

My wife is always saying she wants to go to the sale barn with me. I know that if I take her and give her the green light to bid we'll come home with a trailer full. :shock: :shock:

Then again that might be a good way to come loaded down and not get in any trouble?

Sidney...she was bred to a red angus...see sam the bull leaves the farm in the everything else board.

If it is a Hereforrd cross it has to be good. Unless it came out of a poor mangement system of a stupid rancher that calves year round.

I think I know a guy like that pretty close you to... think I'd agree on that year round stuff turning good herefords into ole calf companions :lol:
