I have a spot in the new garden that's hard clay
about 4" down. Will not turn over.Should I use a
Sub Soiler and inject manure in the ground. Or
should I just right it off. It' about 80'x200'

I would find some thing to break the hard pan and then turn it over. you might have to hire this.

I was told Gypsum mite loosen the clay up. Has any one try
this? Looks like I need a ton to cover this area.

Gypsum will help some but you'll need to work in some sand, The gypsum makes it less sticky but the sand will help add particle size.

The problem is getting sand in my area. That doe's sounds like a
plan. Going to try to get 15 yds of sand and a ton of Gypsum.
and see how that works.

I used Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) on a pasture a few years back.
It was so hard that rain water wouldn't soak in.

Worked good, but the PH shot up and had to lime again.

The area I live in has a lot of clay. Several years ago I built a house and dug a basement. The dirt I pushed out of the basement went out into a small lot and a garden spot. The lot called for 5 tons of lime to an acre. The graden spot had this same dirt on it. The first year I put some mulch ,about 4 inches, on it and cut it in. Then I cleaned out the barn and put all of that on it and cut it in. I limed it and had some sand brought in and turned everthing again. Now I have a great garden spot.

How deep did you turn it in. Or did you just disc it in .

I incorporated it in with a "Do-All" You can put Gypsum out on top of the soil and it WILL work it's way in unless a rain washes it away.

Works good for clearing up muddy ponds too.
