Naw, but whenever we had to go fight, they gave us a ride!! ;-)

Never did take any of those boat rides. I heard they could be fun. Mostly we rode the elevator. Straight up and straight down.Z

On the water you could see miles of nothing... In the jungle you could see feet of nothing... I did however prefer the the fruit bats and parrots to the seagulls...
Ooooh Raahhhh! And Happy Birthday to my partners in crime...
BTW Our local Marine Corps. League is hosting a dinner tomorrow night (Nov. 10th) Do any of the rest of you have a Marine Corps. detachment of any kind that has a gathering???
Semper Fi Brothers!!!

Huraaaahhh!
Planning on having cake and coffee with some well seasoned Marines on Sat. Nothing formal just a bunch of guys that have hung our uniforms in the closet but haven't stopped looking back once a year or so.

JC... I was thinking about those brown water boat rides.. The idea of being out in the middle of the ocean seems plumb pleasant.

Again Happy Birthday Jarheads. Unfortunately the Army doesn't seem inclined to observe those type of traditions.Z

Once the boat landed, we actually got to fly everywhere we weren't humpin it to... :D The down side was that there were no inflight meals, the crew all looked the same (Unattractive at best), and there were never any personal comments from the cockpit... Like "If all of you would please look out the Port side windows now... " Or "The Captain has turned on the Seatbelt Sign, would please return to seat immediately as we have started our decent and we'll be landing shortly... Down there in that big clearing... The one on the Starboard side of the aircraft with no cover, lots of smoke and, bright flashes"
On a side note Z... We have a MillIron (QH) family up here in Montana... Cliff & Lisa... There only involvement with cattle seems to be chasing them out of a perfectly good chute and putting a rope around their necks and little rear hooves..... Any kin to them that ya know of??? THey also own a feed store and the local roping arena...

My daughter is a 2nd Lt in her MCJROTC. We will be attending the Birthday celebration at the high school this afternoon. She is a rifleman(woman) on the color guard. Plans to be the first female snipper in the military. Shes a good shot (best in school).

The whole elevator thing started because we had one driver assigned to us that would head into an LZ and flair at about 100 ft and cut the cable on the elevator. We figured out after about the second or third ride that looking out the doors when he did it was a good way to loose your lunch. I will say in the idjits defense that he came and got us couple of times when it was hot enough to fry fish.

Is the people you're talking about named Milliron? Never heard that one. Our brand is a milliron over an M. I bought it from an estate back in the 70s that was near Lusk Wyo. Had it transfered up there then I registered it in AZ when I lived there and now in Texas.Z

Sunday is Rememberance Sunday, where the Royal Family and Old Servicemen and women will attend a Church Service at the Cenatath and lay a wreath of poppies, to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the Two Wolrd Wars.

Do you have 'POPPY Day'?.... here the old soldiers have a Charity fund, and they make Paper Poppies which you can buy and wear with pride, all monies go to the Charity fund.

Our community has a small parade (4 blocks) and a ceremony on the courthouse lawn. Our MCL will be there with a color guard.

Semper Fi!

It has been decades it seems, but when I was very young I remember that there would be people standing out in front of stores with a basket of red paper... plastic... poppies... I haven't seen it done in years... And I don't even know what it was for... Just remember those baskets...

Some of our training included hand to hand combat... Never made any sense to me... Especially when you can take care of an issue from 1000 yards away... I love to shoot!!! Tell your daughter to keep pulling that trigger...

the Poppy is to remember the Soldiers who died in WW1, they died in the Poppy fields of France, as one of the poems said the Poppies began to grow inbetween the makeshift graves. It now represents all of the Wars, in modern times, so I wear my Poppy with pride, and pray for those men and women fighting for our freedom around the World now. God Bless the Troops.
