What is the average hang weight of say a 1000# steer. (hereford) Does it make a difference on breed, if so what is best and why? Also what do you pay per pound?

Depends on the animal...we usually slaughter at 1200+ and get carcasses 650 to 750. Ain't in the business of raising soup bones. Our Herfs don't get that heavy, need to know the animal, some take longer to finish...when he's packing away the groceries and isn't gaining like he once did it's time to put the majic X on the forehead.
We sell at $2.00/lb on the rail, customer pays slaughter and processing.

We are getting 60-62% hang wt on Angus sired calves weighing 1150-1250 lb at harvest. Avg. age is 15 months.
