I am frying ham, eggs, green olives and sliced tomatoes for breakfast in olive oil. I got the ham from my friend who is my age (both born 1950). He prepares it as a whole ham then slices off what you want. He told me the ham tastes like salt cured but has no salt and is thus healthy. He says two Doctors offered him a $100,000 for the recipe but he would not sell it. He has his operation in a real nice building near the farm house where he lives. I was asking him how well the business is going because I never see anyone there. He said it was bad. I said maybe you should sell the recipe. He says no, I would not give them dam Doctors a chance to make a fortune off me.
It reminded me of a story my Dad told about 30 times a year. When he worked for Tony Neltner at his auto garage, he said a guy invented a device you put on the valve stem of a tire and the tire would last 5 times longer. He said when the tire companies found out about it they wanted to buy it. But instead, the inventor who was a mechanic that worked with dad, threw it in the Ohio River. It never made any sense. But it did not stop him from telling it.
