I'm having a hard time this year getting my training halters to fit my heifers FAT heads! I only use the nylon ones, with the attached control chain. My Simbrah heifer with the longer face is easy to fit, but I have two Simmi heifers that have a lot of skin under the jaw. In order to get the crown and nose piece to fit, the strap that goes under the jowl is way too tight. I even have the type with the adjustable "jowl" strap, but it's on it's last hole.

Any brilliant suggestions? Surely I'm not the only one with fat headed heifers..

I cut the other strap that goes under the jaw on the un-adjustable one, or sometimes with the adjustable jaw strap un-do it. Texas Longhorn Ranch Supply has the control halters with the chain and adjustable jaw strap available, and the jaw strap on theirs is longer than anyone elses. They have them custom made because they deal more with Texas Longhorn customers, and Longhorns have similar issues. Great people to deal with, too, I've known 'em my whole life. Here is their website: http://texaslonghornranchsupply.com/index.html

Could you rig up a spacer to add to the throat latch? They need to come up with a better design or make spacers with buckles at each end. Or maybe try a bull halter?

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem..

Thanks for the link Ryan.. I'm going to check it out tomorrow when I'm in the office. I had actually thought about taking off the nylon straps that are on them now and replacing them with a bungie cord! :) But if I can find the straps with a longer length, that would great! And much nicer to look at.

I just use rope halters, i ran ino a few problems with the chain halters before too. Rope halters are easier but when you have soft hands they hurt!
