We had the first calf of the year on Christmas day, a Red Angus bull calf out of a cow we bought. Now we have to wait until the middle of January for the rest.

Nice deep bodied cow. Is she fattened up for show? She's got a lot of fat in the brisket.
No, she was out on corn stalks until 2 weeks ago and has just been on hay.

Just out of curiosity what is her EPD for ME. Cuz she sure looks efficient to ME.

Well then she's a dandy. Congrats and hope the calf grows up to be just as good.

Her ME EPD is 7.

I must say I am a little surprised. She appears to be a very easy keeper but that number puts her in the bottom 1/4 of the breed.

i had my first spring calf dec 10th and our last fall calves born dec 20th, i think they are confused. very nice pair, i love the red angus cow

Thanks everybody! We're hoping this little bull grows out nice. We're hoping that since this cow is so much earlier than our others that we can flush her once and still have her bred for another calf for next year.

Just to post a little update... This cow's bull calf is looking great. We like the cow so much, we're going to be flushing her to this bull.

I know he might be a little too 'show bull like' for some of you guys and gals, but we're hoping this bull will bring in a little more flash to the calves. She is going in tomorrow for her first flush.

How does one figure that out?

What do you mean?

Got this cow flushed today, and got 12 good embryos out of her  . Which is way better than what her previous owners were getting (4-6 the two times they tried flushing). And that was with screwing up and giving her a shot 12 hours late.
