Do gutter guards or leaf guards really work ? My mom wants to get them put on there house for my dads birthday so he doesn't have to clean out the gutters so much. I told her that he should just take care of the problem and cut the trees down instead but she isn't going for that. Does anyone have any experience with them ?

They can help, but some kinds of debris will build up on top of the gutter guards.
Then you still have to clean, but it is easer.
Might be cheaper to try one of those metal bent tips on a garden hose...

I have lots of trees around my house and tried a couple other types with not very good luck. I put these on and I have not touched them for several years,or since being put on, and my gutters work good. They are easy to put on and I highly recommend.

You're on the right track. The world's best gutter guard is a chain saw.

Yes I agree. I like trees for shade but I refuse to have one close enough to my house that could cause damage.

Thanks !! I'll check those out

Depends a lot on what type trees you have. Guards don't work worth a flip for conifers because the needles get in the holes.

You got that right. Around here I’d rather have no gutters than gutters with guards.

I have some pretty good size conifers close my house and so far it seems what few needles that have gotten through must have washed on down the spout as I have never had a gutter overflow since the metal guards where put on. I am sure if enough was to get through could cause a problem, but those holes are pretty small for the needles to get at an angle to drop through.

Just last week I had to take the guards off my gutters due to pine straw. Granted the guards had been on for a few years now but the needles will go in the holes and stop things up and also create a mat on top of the gutter guard. I haven't put the guards back because I'm thinking of just taking the gutters off and being done with it.

i've tried many types and have worked a lot of houses with different ones.

the best ones i've found are the plastic ones wit holes, but with a screen underneath the holes.

just worked on a house surrounded by silver maples, and there wasn't a whirlygig or leaf to be found.

I first had the ones you roll out over the top of you gutters and not long after it had fell in the gutter. I tried the hard plastic ones that clip in the gutters that worked great for maybe five years then they cracked all to pieces. If the plastic ones are like the ones I had will work good until they degrade. The ones you have experience with maybe better plastic.

I have had experience with gutter guards and really like the ones I have now as aluminum will usually outlast plastic, especially after our government wants all plastic products to be biodegradable in pretty short time.

I have had mine probably at least 5 years and I got them from Ebay probably the same one selling these. They are the ones you want just make sure your gutters are the size you order for.
