Chrisy, I think that we all agree that what happened in Virginia is very saddening , my daughter's family lives there, but anytime that you are dealing with nuts there is always a possibility of anything happening. Just think of what would have happened if he had contaminated the water supply for the whole place. We are only as safe as the most insane in society will allow us to be.

If guns were outlawed guess who would have them? Only the outlaws.

If a lot of students in that school would have had a gun they could have taken that scumbag out right away. Guns can also save lives!!!!

THANK YOU CROWDER!!

Just ordered one for myself and one for each of my two brothers!

Crazy is as crazy does.

I look at it this way. If you were be nice bent on going off the deep end, wouldn't you be less likely to walk into a room and start firing away if you knew everybody else in the room was armed, too?? Just a perspective.

The guy was looking for a place to die...and go out in a blaze of glory. I doubt that to him it would have mattered if everyone was armed to the teeth.

It does cross my mind, however, how things might have played out had there been someone, or two, who could have taken the guy out. My worry is...if everyone pulled a gun and started firing, how many would have been killed by "friendly fire." I could jump both ways on this one, at least with the facts at hand.

And no, I'm not advocating gun control...

Also, how many would have been saved had the university warned those on campus in ways other than email? Jeez Louise...students sitting in class taking notes aren't gonna constantly be checking their email...

The thing is...how can we possibly second guess this situation from what we gather from the media. Something this tragic cannot be figured out buy John Q Public watching Fox or CNN.

Just my 2 cents...

I actually wasn't referring to the specific situation in W.V. I'm no Monday morning quarterback; I was just making a statement in general.

As far as the email thing ... you're right. Give me a break!! I'm sure someone will pay the price for that one. Unfortunately, people don't always react logically in situations like that. You'd think after the number of incidents we've had across the country over the past years, each educational establishment would have a reaction plan in place for things like this. Sad that we have to do that, but seems to be a necessity now.

I'm sorry...for some dumb reason I thought I was responding to you on a different thread when I specified the W.V. incident. My bad...

For the most part these things happen where guns are in a place where there are not supposed to be any. Talk, radios, fountain pens, or folders don't solve them. They are only solved by more guns brought into the situation to solve them. If some of the staff had been armed it would not have gotten as far as it did. For those that ask "what keeps a armed teacher from going berserk." - more armed teachers. Police officers are armed, if one of them goes on a shooting spree we don't take the guns away form all of them. Responseable, trained people with guns can put a stop to some of this. Yes, people do get killed by "friendly" fire. But far more are killed by "unfriendly" fire. I have a daughter fixin to enter a major college, I would feel more secure knowing there were armed staff around to protect her and others.

Bad thing is most (not all) professors support gun control (aka Liberals). Probably would not be that many professors who would want to carry a gun even if they were permitted to.

Ps. Arm the Janitors, we will carry them ;-)
