We inplant our steer 1 or sometime 2 times before the show they are intenden for. I was wondering if anyone else implants their show steers and if they see any advantage to it. I am only asking about show steers, not commercial cattle.

we implant our steers at about 4 mos. any steer sold as a show steer will be implanted again as it leaves the place unless it's going to a carcass show. carcass steers are not re-implanted because implants can lower quality grades. we use Synovex.

Why do you implant? We didnt implant our steer last year. Should we implant the one this year?

Some people call the "steeroids". They help them convert their feed more efficiantly and their muscles get more developed. They can sometimes get too big with the implants so it really depends on the steer. If you have a big growthy steer them you probably do not want to implat him because he will get too big.

We have implanted young steers. These steers were july calfs and needed to put the weight on for our july county fair. They seem to go great. Our good steer had a 180 day rate of gain of 3.55lbs. I do not know about older calves.

I've always heard that implanted cattle don't deposit fat around the tailhead like normally fed cattle, leady to a bony look there. No personal experience, as the only cattle we feed out are show steers, and we don't implant them.

I don't do the show thing but do use ralgrow on my commercial calves. The benefit that I have seen is increased gain and feed efficiency. This is kind of ironic. The very first post or one of them that I put on this board was about implants. Started a good debate(argument).

Implants are the second biggest performance bargain in the world...since hv is free its number one. If implants are good enough for feeder cattle its good enough for show steers
