Well, stepped out the house this morning, and the dog was laying in the garage in his normal spot. All seemed well, except he didn't get up. When he did try, he couldn't. Fooled with him, and he didn't seem sore to the touch. Seemed out in has back end. I couldn't tell if it was his spine, hips, or hocks. Took him to the vet. They kept him all day. $294.70 later, they said it was growing pains. Didn't know dogs got that. Anyway, he's 99% now. Part of me suspicions, that it was for attention. Idk. Ever heard of that?

Blue heeler. The kids were on spring break this week, he might have chased them on 4 wheelers, and horses, till he was sore. My first thought was hip displasia, but they said no.

How old is he?

I've not heard of growing pains making it so the dog can't get up. I've had lots of dogs of different breeds, and never came across that. BUT......anything is possible.

Sounds to me like they couldn't find what was wrong but needed to justify $ 294. Kinda like when the hospital told me my son had a fever virus.

Is he getting a good quality puppy food? Did he get a 7 way shot at weaning?

He had multiple shots. He should be utd. I "think" he eats Iams.

Should be fine in that area then. Ours have been on an unintended raw diet since November, deer from hunting season, dead goats, old meat from freezer cleaning, etc. It is the best I have ever seen ours look, and I've had them for 25 years! Biggest drawback is worms and bones on the lawn. When the run out of dead stuff to eat, we have had excellent luck with diamond brand food. I'm thinking an egg on his food may help your pup out....

I think chasing the kids on the bikes and horses is the most likely explanation, he has overdone it then when he laid down for the night everything has stiffened up a bit. No different to us when we overdo things we have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. I don't suppose you noticed what colour his urine was in the morning.
Dogs his age can get trouble in joints like elbows and shoulders but they will be obviously lame and it won't go away.
I think "growing pains" is a pretty pathetic explanation of things.

We have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that is about 14 months. He is an extremely active dog! From about 8 months to 12 months he would have a bout of this every few weeks it would seem. You could just about watch him growing by the minute at that stage. In the morning when he got up he was really stiff and looked like an ancient old dog with really bad arthritis. As he moved around he would limber up. We tried to keep him quiet and rested but it was pretty much a lost cause. Painkillers made him less stiff, but then he just ran around more & ended up being worse the next day. We just let it run it's course. The first time it happened I was sure we bought a dog with hip & or elbow dysplasia.... seems to be just fine now though!

Hope your pup is back to himself soon!

Day late/dollar short on this. Need to pay more attention to this forum topic. FYI there is condition
in young dogs "Panosteitis" that presents itself as being very painful. Patient appears as if fracture or at
least deep bone bruise. Good recovery with treatment, recover with only rest just longer.
