I should know the answer to this but I'm asshamed to say I don't
.
I have one ground rod off of my electric fence box, it's about 4 feet from the box and 5 to 6 feet down. I get the pop comming through my am radio (it bugs not only me but Bill O'Rielly, Tony Snow and the Duck football games LOL).
What causes the pop and how much does a bad ground pull from the fence? I have a 15 mile fencer with far less than that out in fence and get about 3500 to 5000 volts through it according to my tester.
I will be putting in another 8 ft rod today about 15 feet away from the first and piggy back it with a heavy gauge wire. We always have good moisture throughout the year, in the summer months the top 6 or 8 inches may get dry but it's moist below that.
Thanks,
Alan
