The natural gas, coal, wind, and nuclear facilities in Texas have all been knocked offline to a degree by the highly unusual low temps. All of those types of facilities work just fine in much colder climates. Texas companies simply did not prepare for the cold. I am not saying it is anyone's fault because this is a once-in-a-lifetime event. But it sure is not the fault of wind or solar energy. Gas coal and nuclear have been hit too.
 
Wind turbines are turning here in OK, but the power is going out of state. We have the rollin blackouts while the "green" power is sold to out of state suppliers.

Almost all the outages we are seeing are caused simply by trees that don't handle ice and snow load well. I've probably picked up a dozen dead birds out of the barn. Uncle lost 4 axis deer that fell through the ice trying to find water. Probably be similar if Kentucky got 70 days of 105 degree heat with no rain. There have been some rolling out blackouts at night ,but usually a hour or so. It's a extra ordinary event. World would be a better place if people didn't always have to place blame....... although I'm pretty sure this is Joe Bidens fault.......

Windmills and solar panels work just fine up here. Texas just got exposed for its shoddy power grid.

Austin is a fine example of a northern cesspool now.
 
Illinois- 8%

A company is trying to do the same thing in Iowa. A project called The Green Line will put in a high voltage DC line from Mason City, Iowa, to Chicago, Illinois. It will funnel green energy from turbines and panels to an energy wholesaler.
 
This is fun, give me another northern blue state to research. So far Texas is kicking azz in green energy comparatively speaking.
Both Wisconsin and Illinois consume more energy than they produce. Both pull considerable resources from out of state grids.
Texas produces more energy than it used. Sending energy to other states.

Yes, if it weren't for "my type" moving to Texas, there wouldn't be record cold temperatures and the electric companies would have been more diligent about trimming trees a safe distance from the lines. Sorry about that.
