Here is good one to go along with the oinion sets. I went into the Fastenel store today. I asked the clerk if they had any grease zerks. He replied I do not know, is that a brand of grease. I then tried to explain that he might refer to them as a grease fitting. His reply what do they do . I explained they will go into holes in a fitting to be able to grease the shaft. He said how do you get grease in them. I said with a gun. He just stood there with a puzzled look on his face.

While trolling through ebay, farm and ranch listings within 100 miles of my home, I fell upon a grease zerk buy. There was every size you could imagine. They were in straight, 45, and 90 degree configurations. I put in a bid and won the lot. Thankfully I should never have to deal with a clerk on that one in my life time.

What I never have been able to figure out is how something you're all the time shooting grease thru can rust out.Z

It is the grease worms eating up all the grease!

My uncle is a grease fanatic. If he's coming, I'd better buy several tubes because he is going to go through all of them.

When he gets done with the tractors, the cat, and the hoe, he is off to the trailer hitches. I clean that off once he leaves. Grease on the hitch just makes sand stick to it, which grinds away the chrome and metal. You can't tell him that tho. Heck, he is almost as stubborn as I.

If you go into a store like that and the clerk doesn't know what a grease zerk is, it might be time to switch to a different store. It seems the managemant doesn't train the employees very well. Fastenal sells literally millions of zerks a year. This kid should know what they are.

Could this possibly fall into one of those categories (From the Military avaiation days) of sending someone out to look for Flight Line... Or Prop Wash...?

Or sending the kid at the tool store looking for a left handed Cresent wrench... or the newbie at the news paper looking for a paper stretcher (been on both ends of that one).Z

Left handed Cresent? Maybe that's what's wrong. Could it be mine are all left handed?

It's easy to tell. The right handed wrenches are all even lengths. 6, 8, 10, 12", etc. The left handed wrenches are odd numbered. 7,9,11,13". Hope that helps.Z

In reality, a left handed crecent wrench opens and closes the jaws when the thumb screw is turned backwards from what you expect. Neighbor has one that's actually labeled Left Hand, he's had it for years. Seems like it's a Proto make.

Well, what about a left handed metric crescent wrench - does he have one of those?

What about green center line?

Don't know about no green center line but I can remember a fews Saturday night in my younger days when I had trouble finding the yellow one. Well... Maybe remember isn't exactly the right word.Z

Dad used to send his new help to town to all the lumber yards to find green center line (maybe it was yellow? ) and told them don't come back without it. Some never showed back up but we got a laugh the next morning when we went to the lumber yard and heard the guys tell them Well, he sent me to get it so there must be one somewhere, they would actually argue with them about it. Mean joke.

Reminds me of an old boy that went to high school with us. He had a rattle in his old car so we sent him to the parts store for a set of hubcap gaskets and a new muffler bearing.
Needless to say, he really didn't ask for our opinions after that.

I just looked at a package of misc sized zirk fittings and it was labeled "grease fittings". Must have been mislabeled
