I have a 3 to 5 acre lot that we use to calve cows out on from mid-february to mid-may, if its somewhat dry it works great but with the spring rain in southeast nebraska its turning into quite the mud mess. I would like some suggestions on what type of grass or grasses i could seed in there this spring to cover all summer and give this area some stability in the winter time.

You've had mud like we have the last two years. I planted sudangrass on mine. The first year I pastured it in the summer and thought in the winter it was better than nothing. This year I let it grow and fall over, and am going that route again. Lot better place to calve and I think the ground is solider than it would be with weeds. The new sudangrass isn't quite as toxic after a frost as older kinds, but I still take care. gs

Considering you're right across the state line from me, and depending on how many cows you're calving out in this lot, there isn't a whole lot in the way of grass that is going to stand up in our kind of weather for that long of a period of time on that small of a plot of ground. March, April, and May can be very wet months in our neck of the woods!

where are you from msscamp?

I live a few miles west of Torrington. My bad - I either misread or my dyslexia kicked in again. Somehow I mistook southeast Nebraska for something else entirely - sorry.
