Anyone here ever lost an animal other than a brood cow to grass tetany? Bull, steer, heifer?

I've seen it in cows, heifers and bulls.

It's caused by a magnesium deficiency, usually (by far) but not exclusively seen with fast growing grass...

I had four cases in one day in a group of 20 cows which had run out of mineral. It had just come an early snow and melted off turnig grass green with "poor man's fertilizer" and found all four stretched out .3 wre dead and fourth died before vet. could make the forty-five minute run from the office.

Wow, that's severe.

What part of VA you in? I live in Nelson Co, just below Afton Mtn.
